Prime Gaming x League of Legends Worlds ’22
Live Campaign Engineering
About The Project
Role: Technical Lead, Giveaway Team
Timeline: July – November 2022
Focus: Live Campaign Engineering, High-Traffic Infrastructure, UX Stability
Stack: Node.js, Load Balancing, Queue System Architecture
During the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, Prime Gaming launched a massive promotional giveaway to engage its gaming community across Twitch and YouTube. I was brought in to lead the technical coordination of the campaign, working through tight timelines, high-traffic loads, and real-time reward delivery.
The challenge? Ensure a seamless giveaway experience for over 200,000 concurrent users without breaking the platform.
Campaign Coordination: Worked with the Prime Gaming and Surf Giveaways teams to align campaign structure, entry mechanics, and API triggers for reward validation.
Scalable Infrastructure: Implemented a robust server scaling strategy and ran extensive load testing simulations to handle real-time traffic surges without system degradation.
Waiting Room System: Designed and deployed a custom queueing system to throttle user traffic at peak entry points — maintaining platform stability, reducing bounce, and delivering a lag-free experience for gamers.
This project stands out as a masterclass in campaign scalability — where every technical decision was made to protect user trust at a moment when everyone was watching.
Achievements
The campaign achieved zero downtime, supported seamless user participation, and reinforced Prime Gaming’s commitment to delivering frictionless, engaging experiences for the esports community.
